Implementing MPA Best Practices for Content Security in Media & Entertainment

By Staple IT··10 min read

MPA's Content Security Best Practices are the de-facto baseline for any vendor handling studio content. A practical guide to where to start and what to prioritise.

The MPA Content Security Best Practices framework is dense — hundreds of controls across organisational, physical, and digital domains. Adopting it doesn't have to be.

Phase 1 — Baseline

Start with an honest gap assessment against MPA's Common Guidelines. Don't grade yourself; bring in a third-party assessor or vCISO. The point is to know where you actually stand.

Phase 2 — Quick wins

  • Documented information security policy signed by leadership.
  • Role-based access on storage and the MAM.
  • Centralised logging for at least 90 days.
  • Visitor management and badge audits.

Phase 3 — Sustained program

MPA expects evidence over time — quarterly reviews, training records, incident drills. Build the cadence before you need to prove it.
